For sustainable and safe mobility

Improvement of urban space for walking

As reflected to the study of mobility completed in Santa Caloma in May 2006, 79% of internal displacement in the municipality are on foot.

The model of urbanization that is implementing the municipality of Santa Coloma is semi -pedrestian. In all cases it is possible for the size, opting for sidewalks and pathways to a single level with pivots pedestrian safety, where cars can continue to circulate, but prefers to walk.

Referring to the feasibility for pedestrians, the main actions will focus on:

  • Creating a network of streets for pedestrians priority use, building roads school,
  • Improving accessibility to neighborhoods with rugged terrain and
  • Improving accessibility to public spaces.

It envisages the creation of two axes of priority use of streets for pedestrians, perpendicular to one another, linking the different ends of the city. These two axes are:

  • A longitudinal axis to join the Park with Europe Can Paixauet, formed through the streets: Dr. Ferran, Sant Carles and Pau Casals square.
  • A transverse axis format through the streets Mn. Jacinto Verdaguer and Sant Justo, following the course of the stream Fondo.

We will continue expanding the island of pedestrians around the town hall, leaving the streets bounded by Prat de la Riba, Padre Camil Rossell, Padre Jaume Gordi, Llorenç Serra and Josep Francesc Macià Martorell.

Expanding the network for bicycles and wording of the bike plan

The city of Santa Coloma de Gramenet ciclable has a network formed by two bicycle lanes:

  • The bike path to Santa Coloma district that runs through the park's Besòs River, giving connection with Sant Adrià,
  • and the other hand lane Can Zam and goes until the start of the Sierra de Marina Park Avenue through Pallaresa, and the streets and Gaspar Prat de la Riba. The union of the two bicycle lanes occurs in the park of the Besòs River in Can Zam.

The Urban Mobility Plan de Santa Coloma 2006 plans to create new lines ciclables which collect the main routes and connecting the central net transportation of the municipality, metro stations, libraries, training centres, cultural and sports.

The proposal is to have two longitudinal axes:

  • The axis formed by the streets San Carles, Dr. Labrador, Puigcastellar, Singuerlín and Americas. It is the basic axis for the future longitudinal displacement in the city and much of its route shares space with pedestrians.
  • River Park: part of the actual network.

These axes are supplemented with four longitudinal horizontal axis walk Verdaguer, Paseo axis Llorenç Serra promenade of San Sebastian and Rambla del Fondo, and axle shaft Avenue Pallaresa Can Zam, Victor Hugo, Pallaresa, Gaspar.

Improving the public transport network

Major planned actions for the improvement of public transport in Santa Coloma de Gramenet are:

  • The construction of the subway line 9, currently under construction.
  • The stretch of line 1 to the centre of Badalona, and
  • Actuation by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority with the aim of strengthening and improving bus service.

The first tranche of the Line 9, Badalona and Sagrera - Meridiana and that includes Santa Coloma de Gramenet, is scheduled for this year 2008.

Improving the transport network: New roads, streets of priority use for pedestrian zones and 30 new aparcament.

New routes

There are currently approved two projects that alter the basic network in the city:

  • The splitting of the road the La Roca between Enher and Avenue Pallaresa. This cleavage will be done through the construction of a new road that will go parallel to the river and Besòs in the stretch that coincides with the Park will be semienterrado Can Zam, and
  • Connecting the streets Valentí Scales and Liszt, will open a new road which will connect the bridge Can Peixauet in Badalona.

30 Zones
An Area 30 is an area where traffic volume is low and where there is not the main roads. The maximum speed in these areas is set at 30 km/ h. We'll then get to share the street with other modes of transport, reduce accidents and improve safety of pedestrians and cyclists.
